🦌 Buck Moon
Typically in July · Upcoming: July 18, 2027
Meaning
Male deer regrow their antlers each year, and July is when new antlers emerge covered in velvet, visibly growing day by day. This moon favors bold growth that is still forming and not yet ready to be shown off or defended.
Folklore & Origin
Algonquian tradition names this moon for the annual antler growth cycle of buck deer; it is also sometimes called the Thunder Moon for the frequency of summer storms in July.
A Simple Ritual
Identify one skill or ambition that is 'growing in velvet' — not yet polished or public — and give yourself permission to keep developing it privately a little longer.
